  1. The Iliad  is a Greek epic set in the final year of the Trojan War. Written 
  2. by Homer, it is the story of the Greek hero Achilles who abandons his 
  3. fellow soldiers. Angered by the death of his friend Patroclus, he returns 
  4. to battle and slays his Trojan enemy, Hector. TheIliad  deals with 
  5. passions and insoluble dilemmas.
